How many weddings have you officiated?
Why does this matter? Standing up in front of a large group of people on such a huge day in the life of the couple is unlike any other type of public speaking. You only get one shot to get it right. “Ums'“ and '“ers”, slow, quiet or embarrassed delivery, not looking up or remembering to ask the gusts to sit down, or no inflection in tone or emotion turns a ceremony into an ordeal.
What’s your process?
This matters because some officiants don’t meet with a couple to plan. They might send a worksheet for the couple to fill out. Others will send a few samples for you to choose from. You might not even see the ceremony beforehand. Meeting with your officiant can ensure your ceremony truly reflects you, and it builds rapport.
Will you attend the rehearsal?
Why? Dress rehearsals decrease stress. You may not remember everything, but walking through with your officiant gives you peace of mind that everything will work out beautifully. It adds to the rapport too. Your officiant is less a stranger and more a friend. Finally, it gives the officiant time to coordinate with the other vendors rather than rushing just before the ceremony.How early will you arrive before the ceremony?

Networks can provide backups if needed. They can also keep officiants aware of legal changes as well as keeping up on the latest trends. There are great seminars and conferences. I’ve spoken for several years at Wedding MBA, the biggest conference in the country.
Do you carry insurance?
Accidents happen. Many venues require proof your officiant carries insurance. It’s part of maintaining a professional standard and protecting everyone involved.
Are you legally able to sign our marriage license?
Only judges and ordained ministers can legally sign marriage licenses in Arizona. While judges are well defined, ministerial ordination is more vague. Typically, ministers are ordained through a church, but some receive ordination from online sites with little if any training. Know what experience your officiant has before booking.
